Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time

By Antonio De Villar

Once upon a time,
there was love in my life—
it was you.

You made me feel free,
and for a while, I was happy.
But I took you for granted,
let you slip through my hands,
believing there was something better
waiting beyond our horizon.

Oh, how foolish I was—
driven by my own greed,
searching for you
in the faces of strangers,
only to meet disappointment
in every reflection.

Once, I had love.
Once, I had peace.
A home, a heartbeat,
a place I could rest my soul.

Now I wander,
wondering if I’ll ever belong again.

Some nights, sadness curls beside me,
and only God knows why.
My bed is cold;
the pillow remembers your name.

I don’t know how I’ve made it this far,
but when I turn and trace my path,
I see meaning in every scar.

Something sacred still awaits—
a dawn not yet risen,
a wind that will breathe life
back into my weary heart.

And when that day comes,
I will stand unbroken—
rejoicing in the light
of a new beginning,
in a place
that is finally
my own.
