“Human Instinct”

“Human Instinct”
Written by Antonio De Villar

I want to be free—
I’m tired of playing for keeps.
You were all I ever wanted,
but not like this.

I tell myself I’ll be okay,
but deep down, I know it’s a lie.
You can’t hold what isn’t yours,
and I can’t keep pretending time will wait.

Life—just a fragile test,
where we each play a part,
some winning, some breaking,
all pretending we understand the art.

My human instinct is to survive.
So I breathe slow,
move careful,
think it through.

Still, the hollow in my chest
echoes like an empty room.
Maybe one day,
all this pain will fade—
or die quietly
like an untold truth.
