Once Upon a Time
By Antonio De Villar
Once upon a time,
there was love in my life—
it was you.
I was happy;
you made me feel free.
But I took you for granted
and let you go,
believing there was something better
out there for me.
Oh, how foolish I was,
defined by my own greed,
searching for you
in strangers’ faces,
only to meet disappointment.
I was happy—
once upon a time.
I had love,
a clear picture,
a place I called home.
Now I wonder,
will I ever find my place?
Sometimes I feel sad,
and only God knows why.
My bed is cold at night—
only tears lie beside me.
I don’t know how I made it this far,
but looking back at my journey,
I see a deeper meaning.
Something special awaits.
Someday, I’ll find myself again—
feel the wind breathe life into me,
and rejoice in the feeling
of a new beginning
in a place
all my own.
